How to find roofing tear-off dumpster jobs from permit records
Roofing work is attractive to roll-off operators because it is frequent, short and repeatable. A roofing contractor that likes your service can order many containers a season. Permit records are one of the few public places where that work becomes visible before the crew arrives.
Which roofing permits matter
A tear-off or re-roof with removal produces heavy debris: shingles, underlayment, flashing and sometimes decking. An overlay, coating, or repair of a small area usually produces far less. Read the description for words such as “remove”, “strip”, “tear off”, “replace” and the number of layers. When the scope is unclear, keep it as a research candidate rather than a confirmed opportunity.
Timing is short, so recency matters
Residential roof replacements often move from issued permit to finished work within days. Review issued records from the last few days first. A seven-day window helps capture records that the city published late or over a weekend. An older roofing permit may already be complete; confirm before contacting anyone.

Shingles are dense. Many operators start with a smaller container for a typical house and adjust for roof area, pitch and the number of layers. Your weight limits and local disposal rules matter more than any rule of thumb. Treat category-based suggestions as a prompt to ask the right questions, not a verified volume.
Think contractor, not address
The most valuable outcome of a roofing permit is often the relationship with the contractor named on it. If the same roofing company appears on several permits in your service area, that pattern is worth a call. Keep notes on who you spoke with, what they use today and when to follow up.
